Travelling in Manado

Mikrolet is the most important and popular public transportation in Manado because it can be seen anywhere around the city. This is a light blue car with a capacity of 9 passengers unlike Mikrolet elsewhere in Indonesia. All seats are designed comfortably facing the front side beside that it makes it easier for passengers and drivers to communicate. Travellng in Manado, Mikrolet has a name plate on the windshield; shows the purpose of example WANEA, TELING etc. Recognize the name of your destination plate and the direction of the Mikrolet which you should take. For outside Manado, you may not see the name of the plate but each destination has a separate stop in each terminal. Ask for help from anyone in the terminal. The microlet are not air-conditioned but you can open the windows to let the breeze for a comfortable ride.

By Public Bus

Public buses or minibuses usually travel between cities, such as Manado to Tomohon, Manado to Bitung, Tomohon to Tondano, and so forth. This bus or minubus does not extend beyond the three designated terminals on the border of Manado. If you want to go to Bitung, you have to take a bus from Paal Dua terminal or from Karombasan terminal to Tomohon if you want to go to Tomohon. Bus directions can be found on the windshield or from an assistant bus driver, who often shouts their direction. Usually buses depart every 15-20 minutes and the rates depend on destination. Usually under Rp 10,000 / person. If you want to go to Gorontalo by Bus, please go to Malalayang terminal because that is where all the buses are located to Gorontalo

Ojek is actually an unlicensed and popular motorbike taxi because it takes its passengers faster to its destination, especially in cities like Manado where traffic jams are a rage. They can be found in their own “terminal”, which can be anywhere in the city, recognized by a homemade little signboard that says “Bicycle Base”. Tariff negotiated short distance is about Rp. 10,000.
